In Karłowice, in the heart of a historic garden estate, we designed a house that would not find its place anywhere else. The building was constructed on a plot with a challenging layout - with a narrow frontage, a considerable difference in ground levels and significant spatial constraints. These challenges became the starting point for the creation of a compact body, which made it possible to develop a relatively large garden. The existing slope meant that the exit to the garden was lowered relative to the first floor level, which in turn allowed us to achieve greater height and spaciousness in the living area. The result was a house “in between”: old and new buildings, urban hustle and quiet garden, lower living room and multifunctional attic. The white, simple body, matched in scale and form to the neighboring buildings, fills the space of the plot in a thoughtful and respectful manner for the site. Large glazing and green terraces allude to the idea of living close to nature - a keynote of 20th-century garden cities.
